A bonus while visiting Tokyo, Japan last month was making a stop at Ginza’s 12-floor Uniqlo. The selection was abundant and the prices were lower, mainly due to Japan’s weaker yen. While there were many Uniqlo essentials I would’ve loved to bring home with me, I ended up with just a few intentional pieces from my wishlist. And now that my Uniqlo collection has grown, I can confidently say I’m a huge fan of the brand’s basics. Not only are they all comfortable, but they are also made of high quality fabrics that I know will be a part of my functional wardrobe for years to come! Read on for details of my current top picks from Uniqlo.
Note: Japan sizing tends to run a size smaller, so I’ll indicate that along with what I think my equivalent North American size would be for each item.

1. U Crew Neck Short Sleeve T-Shirt
White t-shirt lovers, you’ll love this one. As the ultimate wardrobe staple, the cult favourite U Crew Neck t-shirt is an instant favourite of mine. I’ve been watching t-shirt reviews lately and this one came up a few times, immediately peaking my interest. I’ll likely be purchasing it in other colours, too! It’s made of soft 100% cotton and the fabric is quite substantial, so there are no issues with it being see-through. For me, it’s one of the ultimate Uniqlo essentials and a true functional wardrobe piece.

2. U AIRism Cotton Crew Neck Oversized Half Sleeve T-Shirt
Quite the mouthful, so let’s refer to this as the oversized tee! It’s a unisex style, and to be honest, this light grey/taupe tone was what first caught my eye. Then when I realized it was an oversized tee, I knew I had to have it since my closet could use a few more of them. I love the comfort and effortlessness of an oversized tee as a great transitional summer piece.

3. Mini Short Sleeve T-Shirt
Yes, another t-shirt… and for good reason! I have to say, Uniqlo does them best. I’m absolutely here for the baby tee trend, so this fit the bill perfectly, while not being too cropped. No need to worry about tucking that extra fabric into those pants. The bit of spandex in the composition of this t-shirt allows it to stretch with your body, providing full comfort.

4. Wide-Fit Pleated Pants
Since my style leans more androgynous, I love a pair of wide leg pants for a bit of a masculine feel. This pair is absolute perfection and something I reach for again and again. It’s wide leg silhouette is super comfortable and allows for ease of movement. I’m obsessed with these and I think I’ll eventually have them in every colour. Another one of my go-to Uniqlo essentials that I think everyone needs in their closet.
