Simple Styling – Easy Monochrome Outfits for Fall

Wow has it been a crazy start to the fall season! Work-wise, the last several weeks were ridiculously busy for me. September and more than half of October has quite literally come and gone. It all felt almost like a blur! Luckily things have finally started to slow down. I have my weekends back to relax and curate content for all the things I love. All that being said, although work has slowed down, other aspects of my life are just starting to really pick up! I’m excited to share what’s to come, but I’ll leave that for a (very near) future post.

For now, I’m back with some simple styling. First off, since we’re knee deep into fall, it’s all about the knitwear and layers. Secondly, tonal dressing, in my opinion, is one of the simplest ways to put together an outfit. How does that work? Commit to a colour and style your outfit in shades of said colour. Result: an easy monochrome outfit!

Today I’m focusing on dark monochrome, showcasing three mostly all-black chic, yet casual outfits to provide inspiration for days where there’s just no time to think of what to wear.

The Cottage Crewneck featured in this post was gifted to me by Tradlands. However, this post is not sponsored and all thoughts are my own. Outfit 1 – Cropped Sweater + Slip Dress

Outfit details - cropped black knitted sweater, black slip dress, mid-calf black boots, half moon bag

Outfit details:
Sweater – Tradlands (gifted; I’m wearing a size XS; colour sold out, linked to other colourways available) | Slip dress (very old, linked to similar) | Boots – L’intervalle (sold out, similar here) | Bag – A.P.C. | Chain Necklace (very old, linked to similar)

I’m so glad this outfit came together exactly as I envisioned it in my head. I’m wearing the Cottage Crewneck from Tradlands in the colourway Storm, a lovely off-black, dark grey shade. Styled with an old black cowlneck slip dress that I don’t get much wear out of anymore. This is mostly due to the fact that I’m not into cowlnecks anymore. But I love repurposing it for fall as a layering piece exactly the way it’s styled here. Since a front tuck is impossible, I opted for a cropped sweater to provide balance without drawing down my top half.

If you do decide to purchase from Tradlands, feel free to use my code HERSIMPLESOLE15 for 15% off your first purchase. I love the oversized fit and substantial knit of the Cotton Crewneck sweater. The colourway Storm is unfortunately sold out, but this look could easily work with any slightly cropped top in any colour – it’s just that easy!

Outfit 2 – Oversized Sweater and Trousers

Outfit details:
Sweater – Aritzia | Pants – Aritzia (sold out, linked to similar) | Boots – L’intervalle | Bag – A.P.C. | Chain Necklace (very old, linked to similar) | Pendant Necklace – Cuchara (no longer available)

A true black monochrome outfit with just two wardrobe pieces. As a full contrast to the silhouette of outfit #1, I’ve gone with a longer oversized sweater front-tucked into a pair of relaxed-fit trousers. To be quite honest, I was surprised to see these two pieces actually work well together. I was afraid it would all drown my figure, and even if it does, I still absolutely love how it all came together. Not to mention how comfortable it all felt. To top it all off I added a pair of combat boots to enhance the overall relaxed feel of this entire outfit.

Outfit 3 – Black and White

We are having some fun with this one! For some when they think of a monochrome outfit, they attribute it strictly to black and white. So instead of a full black look, I’m wearing a black and white striped sweater with black straight leg jeans. Here I’ve topped it off with an off-white shirt jacket – one of my favourite purchases from this season. It’s finally that time where it’s appropriate to layer a cotton jacket over a knit sweater. Extra layers for extra warmth. I absolutely love the coziness of it all.

No-fuss, minimalist outfits are clearly a favourite of mine. And for me, a dark monochrome look is a place of comfort. If you’re dealing with any sort of wardrobe churn, I encourage you to look to your closet to create a few simple monochrome outfits in any colour(s) of your choosing. You’ll be surprised with the variety of wonderful looks you end up coming up with!

Have a great week and thanks so much for stopping by!
