Who else LOVES a good chunky boot this season?! I definitely fit into this category, though I’ve been a part of it for quite a few years. So, when Poppy Barley sent over a pair, I was over the moon! Naturally, I had to immediately create a post with a cream chunky boots outfit – or three 😉
A pair of casual chunky boots in a lighter tone was on my wishlist for a long while now. I know darker tones are easier to gravitate to since they’re thought to be more flattering. While I have a chunky pair in black, there is something about a light-toned boot that feels fresh and airy, even for fall and winter. It does involve a bit more care, but with a high-quality shoe regardless of colour, the cost-per-wear is totally worth it!
I just love a warm winter layered outfit, one that perfectly braves the Canadian cold without sacrificing style. So that’s exactly what these three outfits will consist of. But first, what is Poppy Barley (they’re a certified B Corporation!) and what are their offerings? Read on for details about this wonderful brand founded in the city I was born and raised in.

What is Poppy Barley?
Founded in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada by two sisters, Poppy Barley is a boots, shoes, and accessories brand. They feature fair prices on high-quality products, sustainably made in family-owned factories. As noted on their website:
“We design everyday lifestyle essentials that reflect the values of our community: people, planet, and a better future.”
Its prices reflect sustainable and ethical implications that the brand adopts. As well, its values are deeply aligned with mine in that it’s clear that their products result in a lower cost-per-wear. If you’re unfamiliar with this formula, it’s something I always consider when adding new to my wardrobe, calculated as:
total cost ÷ the # of times I’ll wear it
It’s a concept that supports the less is more philosophy, as long as you’re actually wearing what you buy (and of course, being intentional with these purchases). Under this concept, a pair of $50 boots that fall apart after 10 wears would essentially cost the same amount as a $300 pair of boots worn 60 times before deteriorating. Poppy Barley’s products seem to lean towards the latter, and are truly made to last.
If you’ve been searching for beautifully designed + comfortable shoes or an accessory to fill a void in your wardrobe, I encourage you to check out Poppy Barley. As someone who’s been pursuing an intentional wardrobe for a few years now, I’m thrilled to add their pieces to my collection. Along with the boots pictured above, they kindly gifted me The Accent Belt in Biscotti and Gold (another wishlist item, included in my list of intentional gifts under $100) and The Slouchy Crossbody Bag in Black.
The Repeat Boot – 3 Ways to Wear
These are truly the perfect pair of cream chunky boots! They provide a subtle edge while maintaining a clean look with a comfortable heel. The Repeat Boot (TTS, I wear size 7.5) in Oatmeal Micro Pebble features:
- A beautiful off-white neutral tone
- A chunky two-toned lug sole with a 1.5″ heel
- A memory foam insole, and
- One extra unique detail – a front zipper
The zipper feature is what I really gravitated towards. A simple but useful feature to help slip the boot on and off. The grip on these are very practical, especially for our Canadian winters. They’re also super easy to clean – I’ve worn these in slush and dirt cleans right off with a simple shoe wipe. If light-toned boots aren’t your vibe, they also come in black.
Cream Chunky Boots Outfit #1 – Blue and Cream

Turtleneck top gifted from Tradlands – use code hersimplesole15 for 15% off your first order
Cardigan gifted from WVN – use code sharon20 for 20% off your order
Everlane jeans (linked to similar colour, similar option here)
Polene bag
Truly one of my favourite colour combos! One that feels and looks so calming to me. The cream tones pair so well with a great pair of blue jeans. And honestly, nothing beats my best pair from Everlane. Not only are they a great pair for year-round, but they pretty much go with any pair of boots. For reference I’m wearing a size 24 in the shortest inseam (26.5″).
Cream Chunky Boots Outfit #2 – Smart Casual

Sweater Dress gifted from WVN – use code sharon20 for 20% off your order
Aritzia fleeced shirt jacket (similar here and here)
Free Label Robson Tight (no longer available, similar here and here)
Polene bag
Earrings gifted from Jenny Bird
A warm layered smart casual outfit, playing with the 3 colour rule: black, grey, and cream. I layered a shirt jacket overtop for extra warmth while it also adds a dressed down effect to the overall look. It also creates more dimension by being a third piece, while matching in tones with the boots quite perfectly!
Cream Chunky Boots Outfit #3 – Wintery Monochrome
The Repeat Boot in Oatmeal Micro Pebble gifted from Poppy Barley
Oak + Fort coat (similar here and here)
Stripe sweater gifted from WVN (sold out, similar here and here)
Denim Forum jeans
Parisa Wang bag – use code sharon12 for 12% off
Toque gifted from Paper Label (similar here)
I couldn’t not put together a monochrome outfit, now could I? Always a go-to, and probably my favourite out of the bunch. The intention was to play around with similar neutral shades. I did such a great job that I pretty much blend in with the wall! Jokes aside, I love this warm outfit full of refreshing, light neutral tones. Textured elements like a ribbed cotton toque (aka beanie) and a two-toned bag add more interest to the overall look.
Thanks so much for reading!
While styling these boots, I focused on mostly lighter tones, like in outfit 1 & 3. For outfit 2, since a pair of black tights were worn, I implemented a balancing effect by wearing lighter tones on top. By incorporating these elements, 3 cohesive warm winter outfits were created while still placing a spotlight on the boots. Though I have to say, the boots truly make a lovely statement on its own!
Now tell me – which cream chunky boots outfit was your favourite?
Awesome boots!
