Fall is in full swing, and what better way to embrace this new style season than with new fall wardrobe essentials? I’m so excited to share my new Everlane staples, purchased from the last few sales that happened over the summer. I’ll always wait for a sale when buying from Everlane since the Canadian duties + taxes tacked onto the prices can get pretty high up there. So whenever a sale happens, I’ll almost always look to my wishlist and if the budget permits, make an intentional purchase at a more reasonable price.
Everlane is by far one of my favourite brands for essentials since their quality, timeless silhouettes, and approach to sustainability are all up there. Each piece fills an important void and truly adds to my lasting wardrobe.
For consistency, details of each item will be laid out in the following format:
- why I decided to buy it
- what the details are
- how it fits into my wardrobe, and
- 2 outfits featuring these pieces
I hope this gives you a good visualization as to whether these pieces could work for your own closet as you embark on your intentional wardrobe journey.
Some items showcased are PR products (labeled as c/o) and some links used in this post are affiliate links. This means if you purchase through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. My goal is to inspire you to get creative with what you already have and be intentional with quality pieces you’ll love for years to come. Thank you for supporting Her Simple Sole blog!
1. The Way-High Jean in Coal
Outfit details:
Everlane Jeans (24, 27.5″ inseam), Aritzia Squareneck Tank (S, similar styles here and here), Frank And Oak Shirt (old, similar styles here and here), Birkenstocks sandals, Poppy Barley bag (c/o)
Why?
As a functional and timeless wardrobe item, I was looking to add a pair of black high-rise straight-leg jeans to replace a pair of Levi’s jeans with a mid-rise. A high-rise is usually what I prefer these days, especially since I have a slightly longer torso when compared to my legs. For me, the added coverage just feels much more comfortable. I guess this means I will not be embracing the low-rise trend – I just know it’s not for me!
What?
- Composition: 96% cotton, 2% elastane, 2% other fibre
- Fit: straight with a leg opening of 15.5″
- Inseam: 3 lengths available – 25.5″, 27.5″, 29.5″
- Rise: 11.5″ (size 24)
- Care instructions: machine wash cold, tumble dry low
- Price: $118 USD ($187 CAD)
Note that different styles of the Way-High jean may have slightly different fabric composition. For example, the style Distressed (my very first pair of Way-High jeans) is made of 98% cotton and 2% elastane. I did find right out of the bag that the Coal fit a teeeeny bit bigger than the Distressed.
How?
As a huge jeans lover, I’ve tried a ton of different denim styles. And I can confidently say, the Way-High jean is my favourite pair right now because of its true straight leg, slightly stretchy fit, and zipper fly. When I received the style in Distressed, I knew right when I put those on that I had to have it in every colour! Sticking with a style I already loved was a no-brainer when it came to choosing a black straight-leg pair. I also love that many Everlane jean styles come in different inseam lengths to cater to different heights. Having petite options is always a plus in my books.
A pair of black jeans is truly timeless and pairs with so many different wardrobe pieces. One of my favourite ways to wear it is with a black top (see outfit 1 above) to create a super easy monochrome base, so that other outfit elements can be used to create more interest. The blue oversized button-up shirt (a trusty hand-me-down from the hubby) adds a nice pop of colour against this black base.
The second outfit below incorporates a black and white theme, and produces a look with juxtaposing elements, from dressy (the button-up shirt) to rugged (the casual chelsea boots). While the end result looks a bit bottom heavy because of all the black vs. lighter tones on top (check out this Reel about easy ways I’d tweak this outfit for better cohesion), the jeans still contributed a nice casual element and suit the look I was going for.
Outfit details:
Everlane Jeans, A&F Tank Bodysuit, Frank And Oak Shirt (no longer available, similar styles here and here), Nisolo Chelsea Boots, Parisa Wang bag (c/o), Aritzia belt (no longer available, similar styles here and here)
2. The Organic Cotton Crew Sweater
Outfit details:
Everlane sweater (XS), Uniqlo T-Shirt (S), Everlane jeans (24, 27.5″ inseam), Converse sneakers, VIVAIA tote bag (c/o)
Why?
I’m a huge sucker for cotton sweaters. This fabric is especially easy to take care of and doesn’t run the risk of being itchy or uncomfortable. When Everlane came out with this style, it immediately went onto my wishlist. Not only is it in a fabric that I know I’d love, but it also has an effortlessly relaxed fit, as well as some beautiful rib stitching along the neckline, sleeves, and hemline to add interest to an otherwise basic-looking sweater. It’s all in the details, friends!
What?
- Composition: 100% organic cotton
- Fit: relaxed and slouchy (intended to fit loosely on the body)
- Care instructions: hand wash cold (from experience, and for convenience sake, for me this means throwing it into a garment bag and washing on a delicate cycle), lay flat to dry
- Price: $98 USD ($155 CAD)
How?
Due to its relaxed and slouchy fit, the sweater lends well to other casual elements and provides an effortless vibe when going about your day. A great casual outfit is truly one of my favourites, as the comfort of it allows for ease of movement during so many life events. Outfit 1 above is a great example of this. For extra warmth and an easy layered look, I paired it with a basic t-shirt on top, providing a bit more interest as the white crewneck detail sticks out underneath.
Another great layering option is with a shirt underneath, showcased in outfit 2 below. I just love this grey tone and it’s actually a shade I didn’t have in my wardrobe yet. As a timeless neutral shade, the grey pairs perfectly with other cooler colours like blue and off-white, which I’ve also incorporated into this outfit.
As well, since this sweater is not quite considered “chunky”, it can easily be layered underneath items like an oversized blazer or shirt jacket for an additional cozy layered look. A major plus for those chilly Canadian winter days!
Outfit details:
Everlane sweater (XS), Everlane shirt (XS), Aritzia pants (2, similar styles here and here), Adidas sneakers, Polene bag
3. The Silky Cotton Relaxed Shirt
Outfit details:
Everlane shirt (2), Everlane sweater (XS), Uniqlo pants (XS), Converse sneakers, Polene bag
Why?
On my wishlist was a “classic white button-up shirt”, and I was pretty convinced that this would eventually be the Relaxed Oxford Shirt in white, since the blue is my all-time favourite. While browsing Everlane’s shirt collection, I stumbled upon this version in a “silky” fabric that was offered in an off-white colour. While the fabric is thinner than the Relaxed Oxford, it drapes beautifully and provides a relaxed and seamless fit that I love.
What?
- Fabric composition: 100% cotton
- Fit: relaxed and boxy (intended to drape loosely on the body)
- Care instructions: machine wash cold, tumble dry low
- Price: $88 USD ($139 CAD)
How?
A white button-up shirt is a true timeless wardrobe staple. I think it’s versatility is similar to a white t-shirt (which I’ve styled 10 different ways here) in that there are so many different ways to wear one. Wear it unbuttoned and open with a casual top for a more dressed down look. Or stick to the conventional way of wearing it – buttoned up and tucked into a pair of tailored pants for a dressier look, like in outfit 1 above. My style-loving heart is absolutely gushing over how the grey sweater matches my grey pants. I just love when colour tones work out like this!
For another great layered option, wear it with a sweater vest (see outfit 2 below) for an academia vibe. I think a sweater vest makes the perfect layering piece in the fall/winter months, since you don’t have to worry about bulky sleeves. Here I’m incorporating the 3 colour rule where the white shirt underneath pops against the blue and brownish tones.
Outfit details:
Everlane shirt (2), Everlane jeans (24, 26.5″ inseam), Oak and Fort sweater vest (no longer available, similar styles here), L’intervalle boots (no longer available, similar style here), Polene bag
4. The Ribbed Tank Dress
Outfit details:
Everlane dress (XS), Everlane shirt (2), VIVAIA Boots (linked to similar style), Paris/64 bag (similar styles here and here)
Why?
As someone who doesn’t wear dresses too often, I’m looking to add ones with functional and classic features before adding any fun ones. While I already have an older ribbed cotton dress, that one is much more form-fitting and shorter than what I prefer now. This dress was exactly what I was looking for in terms of length and fabric composition, so it immediately went onto my wishlist when it first came out.
What?
- Fabric composition: 97% cotton, 3% elastane
- Fit: fitted to the body, but also slightly relaxed
- Length: 44.5″ (size XS)
- Care instructions: machine wash cold, tumble dry low
- Price: $78 USD ($124 CAD)
How?
When I first saw this piece, my initial thought for fall was how great it would look with a pair of knee-high boots (something that’s still sitting on my wishlist), which is what I envisioned for outfit 1 above. So please excuse the mid-thigh boots as I wouldn’t actually wear this combo out. The skin showing in between the black dress and black boots cuts off my legs, which can make me look shorter. Regardless, this dress works for all seasons as it can be worn on its own or layered underneath so many different pieces, like a button-up shirt (above) or a relaxed blazer (see outfit 2 below).
Outfit details:
Everlane dress (XS), Grae Cove blazer (S, similar style here), OLEADA briefcase bag (c/o), Converse sneakers
