One of my favourite fall pieces in my wardrobe is a turtleneck top – it’s evident by the various styles I have! These are the perfect pieces for this time of the year while the temperatures drop down. My love for a good turtleneck top has been ongoing for a few years now. It’s undoubtedly an ultimate fall/winter wardrobe staple for me, especially since I live up north. The extra warmth around my neck is absolutely needed!
In today’s post, I’m showcasing my favourite lightweight turtleneck tops easily styled for fall. We’re talkin’ ones that can be worn alone or as a layering piece. We’ll save the chunky knitted stuff for a later day! I’ve incorporated a few of my layering tips included in a post from last winter since to be quite honest, our fall weather would be considered winter to some. But I’m not complaining – more the reason to have fun with layers.
The Monty Turtleneck featured in this post was gifted to me by Tradlands. However, this post is not sponsored and all thoughts are my own. Turtleneck Outfit 1 – Loose-Fit
Outfit details:
Turtleneck Top – Tradlands (gifted, use code HERSIMPLESOLE15 for 15% off your first order) | Jeans – Everlane | Boots – L’intervalle | Bag – A.P.C | Trench coat (old, linked to similar) | Necklace (old, linked to similar) | Bracelet – Mejuri
I patiently waited for the arrival of this lovely loose-fitting turtleneck top, kindly gifted to me by Tradlands. As I immediately put it on I was introduced to it’s comfortable, stretchy fabric (95% cotton 5% spandex). And I was very pleased with the fact that it still maintained its shape after a full day’s wear. The double layered neck is not at all restricting, yet still provides the extra warmth I’m looking for. XS (worn here) fits great, however for a bit of extra room I’d suggest sizing up. Styled with a pair of blue jeans and a black flowy trench coat makes for a fun Sunday brunch outfit – which I very happily wore to this exact outing.
Turtleneck Outfit 2 – Fitted Under a Shirt
Outfit details:
Fitted Turtleneck – Kotn (colour no longer available, linked to other colourways; see ribbed version here) | Shirt – Everlane | Jeans – Levi’s | Boots – L’intervalle| Bag – A.P.C | Necklace – Cuchara (no longer available) | Bracelet – Mejuri
I couldn’t for a second leave out a top from the very brand that introduced me to the classic fitted turtleneck. Kotn fitted turtleneck tops are my absolute favourite! Soft, comfortable, and made to last. I would highly suggest sizing up, especially if you plan to machine dry. I love wearing mine as a layering piece (also seen here and here, and worn on its own here), this time with a relaxed oxford top, black straight leg jeans and black accessories.
Turtleneck Outfit 3 – Fitted With A Coat
Outfit details:
Fitted turtleneck (old, linked to similar) | Coat – Everlane (sold out, similar here and here) | Jeans – Levi’s | Boots – L’intervalle (almost sold out, similar here and here) | Bag – A.P.C
How lovely is a stripes and trench coat combo? I felt so very Parisian in this look! This is by far my oldest turtleneck top of the bunch, purchased from Aritzia years ago. The material of this top also contains 5% spandex like the Tradlands Monty Turtleneck in outfit 1 above. Which really now has me thinking, if you’re looking for a quality turtleneck top, or any top for that matter, find one that contains spandex or 100% cotton like the Kotn one in outfit 2 above, for ultimate comfort.
Turtleneck Outfit 4 – Mock Neck Under A Sweater
Outfit details:
Tank top – Kotn | Sweater – Aritzia (also see similar here) | Jeans – Denim Forum (also see similar here and here) | Boots – L’intervalle | Bag – A.P.C. | Bracelet – Mejuri
My favourite hack of the bunch! If your preference is less restriction around the neck area, style a mock neck tank top as a layering piece instead (also seen here). I have this version in both white and black, and it’s especially useful during the fall and winter months. Avoid bulky sleeves while still keeping warm in extra layers. I’ve styled one here in a contrasting look, with an oversized black sweater, white straight leg jeans, and brown boots to break up the monochrome.
I hope you enjoyed this fun little styling session! What’s your favourite way to wear a turtleneck top for fall?
