A Roundup of February 2021 Favourites + The Perfect Long Cardigan

We’ve finally made it through the worst of winter! How lovely is it to know Spring has almost arrived? Lighter layers, longer days, more time spent indoors. In last month’s post I talked about my plans for these monthly roundups and how I’m using them as a way to practice gratitude. So as we trek along into the new season, I’m recapping a few of my February 2021 favourite moments in this post. At the very end you’ll find details + 3 ways to wear my favourite February wardrobe purchase, the Frank and Oak Recycled Wool Cardigan Dress. Let’s get into it!

New Recipe: Greek Inspired Roasted Veggie Wrap

Roasted veggies in a wrap, yum! I know, it’s nothing new or groundbreaking, but I loved this so much I had it for lunch for an entire week straight with no hesitation. This simple recipe I found on Pinterest is what first inspired it. Then I had the idea to make it more Greek-inspired by adding tzatziki, souvlaki spices, and feta cheese (all items I currently had). Tofu added for extra protein. I also added avocado which was the icing on the cake, so to speak.

Splurge Purchase: Mejuri Jewelry

Mejuri Croissant Dome Earrings and Baby Box Chain Bracelet

After receiving news of a very unexpected job promotion, I rewarded myself with my very first piece of 14k gold jewelry I’d been eyeing for quite some time. My goal over the next few years is to curate a timeless jewelry collection full of quality pieces that will stand the test of time. That also means more expensive and carefully planned pieces, and a very slow process. The simplicity of the Mejuri Baby Box Chain Bracelet provides the perfect amount of sturdiness and sparkle for every day wear, without being bulky or heavy. I literally have not taken it off since receiving it. I absolutely adore it. I’m now eyeing the Baby Box Chain Necklace and Stacker Ring.

I also purchased the Croissant Dôme Hoops in Gold Vermeil. I’m excited to style these for the spring/summer seasons coming up and look forward to see how they hold up. I know they will provide the perfect touch of gold to any outfit.

You can see these two pieces live in action in my most recent styling post here.

Small Joys: Plant Growth

Plants are just the most majestical little things. Here’s the newest leaf growth on my monstera deliciosa (photos taken mid February vs. end of February). Little things like this bring so much joy to my days!

Wardrobe Purchase: Cardigan Dress

A long knit cardigan was on my wishlist since the beginning of 2020. I knew immediately what I wanted – a neutral colour (black or cream), buttons for versatility, and a length down to my knees. If this doesn’t meet my wishlist criteria, I don’t know what else would. It’s truly the perfect (to me) long cardigan.

The Frank and Oak Recycled Wool Cardigan Dress is made of 26% recycled wool. No itchiness is a plus! I’m wearing a XS, and it hits right above my knees on my 5’3″ frame. The fabric is quite substantial and would work well as a warm winter piece. But I’m also excited to transition it into spring as an outer-layer while I bask in the warmer weather. The cream colour pairs well with thoughts of sunshine and flowers. The silhouette of this piece suits Frank and Oak’s description of it as a “Cardigan Dress”, as I find the bottom flares out in a subtle A-line shape.

Frank and Oak is a certified B corporation, and is making strides in the sustainability world. You can read about their story here. An added bonus that they’re Canadian! Their prices are also quite affordable compared to other sustainable brands out there.

How Does This Fit Into My Wardrobe?

3 main considerations come to mind when looking to add an item to my wardrobe:

  • Do I have anything similar to this?
  • How versatile is it? Can it be styled a few different ways?
  • Is this a wardrobe essential or a seasonal statement piece I’ll wear year after year? (Read more about my 5-Piece French Wardrobe approach here)

First I’m happy to say this is the very first long cardigan with buttons I’m adding to my wardrobe. I don’t have anything like it in my current closet.

Secondly, I will always be partial to items with buttons since they really add to the versatility of it. To be able to wear this as a dress itself, with or without the included fabric belt, or to wear it fully open as a cardigan, or perhaps even buttoned halfway? There are so many styling possibilities.

Lastly, I’ve categorized this as a seasonal statement piece since it’s meant for cooler weather. This categorization is important to me as it’s a method I’ll use to track my purchases (I have a lot of new thoughts on how I want to curate my wardrobe!). Because of its classic look, I feel that it’s the perfect timeless piece I’ll wear year after year.
