5 Simple Ways to Change Up Your Outfit

During the past few months, I’ve been styling my outfits in a variety of different ways, just to keep it fun, fresh, and interesting. I’ve added a few tweaks here and there to gradually find what type of styling I like. Now, this answer is never black and white – styling can take the form of so many different ways! As long as you’re open to discovering the versatility of your items, you’re already at a great starting point.

Whether you’re curating a capsule wardrobe, styling outfits with items you already have, or just re-wearing an outfit you absolutely love, the last thing you want is to get tired of your closet items, and run the risk of adding things to your wardrobe that ultimately don’t add value into your overall vision & life, simply out of boredom. So, here are 5 simple styling tricks you can incorporate into your outfits to really change it up:

1. Tuck it in

One of my favourite ways to change up the styling of an outfit is by tucking my top into some high-waisted bottoms. My favourite one is the “french tuck”. If you’re not familiar is this, it’s where you simply tuck the front part of your top nicely into your bottoms. See the difference below:

A french tuck definitely works best with a flowy top, in my opinion. The option to fully tuck your top in is also there, or even half tuck, if your top permits!

2. Add a belt

In the past, I wouldn’t even think to take full advantage of the versatility of a belt. It’s truly a wonderful accessory to add to numerous different looks – to cinch in your waist, break up monotony, or even tie around just because you feel like having an extra accessory on. Here are a few comparative looks:

3. Change up your shoes

Switch between casual and dressy shoes – it’s a simple trick that can really change up the entire vibe of an outfit. Sometimes I’ll even style a super casual hoodie with a pair of black ankle boots! It’s a great way to really have fun with your look.

4. Roll it up

This doesn’t work for everything, but I think a good tip to change up the look of a pair of jeans is to roll up the bottom hems, regardless of the cut. In most cases, I prefer cropped jeans – and in most cases, they are NOT cropped on me (I’m 5’2″). Rather than alter it (to keep the longevity & versatility of the jeans), as a temporary solution, I’ll roll up the hems of each leg, to get the cropped look I want. I think it gives off a more casual vibe.

5. Add a pop of colour or print

One of my favourite combos to wear is an all black outfit + a pop of colour/print. And what better way to do this than to just throw on a layering piece? That way, you’re not fully committed to the look and can take it off as you please.

Give these tips a try – I bet you’ll surprise yourself with how many outfit combos you’ll come up with!
