I wanted to express my insane excitement for being accepted into the rewardStyle family!
If you’re curious, rewardStyle is an affiliate network that will allow me to potentially earn a side income, at no cost to you. Once you have the LIKEtoKNOW.it app downloaded, you can shop my looks directly from there by either taking a screenshot or liking my picture on Instagram.
It makes online shopping SO. MUCH. EASIER.
This is by no means a sales plug. I myself finally downloaded the app yesterday, and honestly, I don’t even know what I was doing before this. I was on it for hours!!! The app will instantly connect you to a bunch of fashion influencers you already follow on Instagram, so there’s barely any work involved.
I admire and follow so many fashionistas, and I really appreciate this app for increasing the efficiency of online shopping. Who really wants to sit there and click on twice the amount of links, when you can do it straight from the app?
Feel free to follow me @hersimplesole on both Instagram and the LIKEtoKNOW.it app, and get shopping! 🙂
A Slip Dress for Fall
Of course I just had to do another post featuring one of my favorite style pieces – a slip dress!
I previously showcased a yellow slip dress that was great for summer. This look is completely Fall inspired and seriously has me yearning for more. I think I’m in need of a midi/maxi one for Winter!
Read on to see how I styled this velvet slip dress…
1. The Dress
This crushed velvet slip dress from Simon’s is seriously a dream. The “crushed velvet” feature gives a plain black dress a bit more substance, since it gives off a more uneven, wrinkled look. When I think of Velvet, I tend to think of Fall, as many crushed velvet items you see in stores right now are in colors that resemble Fall – black, burgundy, dark blue, green, and even blush pink. Can I please just have one in each color?
2. The Layers
Here, I went with a pullover, which is actually part of a twofer that I purchased from Shopbop. The other item is a faux leather cami, so I received two items for the price of one! Definitely a steal.
This white underlayer with bell sleeves give off a feminine vibe (here I am again with the statement sleeves!), which offsets the rather aggressive nature of the crushed velvet dress. It gives off a bit of a Victorian feel, wouldn’t you say?
Of course with the weather getting increasingly cold, it was necessary to wear my trusty Line & Dot trench coat overtop.
There are so many other ways to layer under/over a velvet slip dress — layer underneath with a turtleneck or a plain white tee; layer over with a faux fur coat (I can see it look especially good with a blue one) or an oversized cardigan. The possibilities are endless!
3. The Accessories
I could’ve easily gone with all black accessories, but as you can see, the hat is a navy blue, while the booties give off a maroon tone. My attempt over here at encouraging pops of color!
I had been looking for a simple, quality baker boy hat for quite some time now, and this one from Topshop definitely delivered. These booties give me just the right amount of height, and have lace up detailing like no other. Because of the platform they’re actually really comfortable – I was able to walk around the mall for hours in them!
How would you style a slip dress for Fall? I’d absolutely love to hear/see your ideas on styling my favorite wardrobe piece!
