The Rush Hour movies were FOR SURE my favorite ones while growing up. My sister and I would do marathons of it for hours. So when I heard Chris Tucker was coming to Edmonton, there was no way I was going to miss it (that’s a lie… I would have potentially decided to miss it if there was an Oilers playoff game on, but thankfully, there wasn’t. 🙂 ). Henry and I, along with his brother & GF, and cousin & wife, went to see him in a stand up comedy act this past Saturday and he was, for lack of a better word… disappointing. Though I just couldn’t get enough of his voice and facial expressions, I think he’s better off sticking to those classic movies!
For this date night I decided to go with a simple yet put-together outfit, dressing up with a trench coat and down with a tank and jeans underneath—perfect mix of both worlds. Add a pop of red lipstick and we’re good to go.
I have to say, back in my university days I had always idolized women in a structured trench coat, with a black shiny purse in hand, walking around downtown during their lunch break or scurrying off to a meeting. I felt like once you had that expensive structured trench coat, you would have made it in the corporate world.
Well, times have changed, I’ve grown up and stayed true to my style & budget. And while I was working in the corporate world, getting a trench coat was probably the last thing on my mind (oh, the stresses). Looking put-together is one thing, but working hard and being good at what you do is definitely another. If you can nail all of these things, i.e. have time to look good even while working your ass off, then that’s when you’ve really made it!
If you search around, there are so many affordable trench coats out there that can really make an outfit, and help you look like the successful corporate (or non-corporate) woman you’ve always dreamed of being. I bought this one for less than $100 from revolve.com (on sale, of course), and I’ve never looked back.
